Questions?
Can l get a prescription from JlNs?
Our partner, 20/20NOW, performs the eye examinations located at three of our JINS stores! The comprehensive, digital eye exams start at $75.
To schedule an appointment, check your preferred location and click “BOOK EYE EXAM”.
What is Pupilary Distance (PD) and how can l measure it if it is not provided with my prescription?
Your PD (pupillary distance) is the distance between your two pupils, expressed in millimeters. Sometimes the doctor will write two values (for each eye) or one value (for both eyes).
We need this measurement because it helps us position your lens prescription’s focus in the right place for your frames.
Below is an example image of a PD measurement:

If your doctor did not include a PD measurement in your prescription, please feel free to use our online PD measurement tool to measure your PD found in our prescription page.
If you are not comfortable with using our guide, you can reach out to your doctor to take your measurement.
You can also head to the nearest JINS, where our trained opticians will gladly take a measurement for you.
What’s the highest prescription you can take?
Currently, we are able to fill prescriptions with a sphere (SPH) measurement of less than -15.00.
For certain products:
– INVINCIBLE CLEAR lenses: Must have a cylinder (CYL) measurement less than -3.00.
– SWITCH frames: Must have a sphere (SPH) measurement less than +2.25.
Order will be cancelled and customer will be notified via email if a prescription is out of manufacturing range.
How long do eye prescriptions last? (Why do they expire?)
Eye prescription validity can vary by country and the individual’s eye health, but typically, an eyeglass prescription lasts for 1 to 2 years from the date of the exam. The expiration of an eye prescription is based on several factors:
- Changes in Vision: The human eye can change over time due to factors such as aging, health conditions, or natural progression of visual acuity. Regular check-ups ensure that your prescription matches your current vision needs.
- Eye Health Monitoring: Regular eye exams are crucial for detecting eye diseases and conditions at an early stage, even if you haven’t noticed any changes in your vision. Many eye diseases, such as glaucoma, develop gradually without noticeable symptoms in the early stages.
- Legal and Safety Reasons: The expiration of prescriptions is also a regulatory measure designed to ensure patients undergo regular eye examinations, which can prevent the use of outdated prescriptions that might no longer be effective or safe.
- Accuracy of Correction: An up-to-date prescription ensures that corrective lenses (eyeglasses or contacts) are effectively correcting vision to the best possible level, enhancing both the quality of life and safety (e.g., while driving).
The expiration period for an eye prescription encourages regular eye examinations, ensuring that individuals receive appropriate vision correction and maintain optimal eye health. Always consult with your eye care provider to understand how often you should be examined and to keep your prescriptions up-to-date.
